4/24/2020 0 Comments Worlds of readingWelcome to Worlds of Reading! I'm excited to be starting this blog, and I'm excited you're here! I decided to start this blog because as a new parent (I have twin one-year-old girls), I really want to raise globally-minded children. I'm currently a doctoral student in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Reading & Literacy. Part of my research is looking at the ways that diverse and global literature help foster socio-emotional learning and cultural awareness. Socio-emotional learning includes fostering empathy through perspective-taking and cultivating social imagination. Research also shows that diverse and global literature helps cultivate cultural awareness, understanding, and acceptance. I know that books can be powerful vehicles to promote global learning and citizenship. I'd like to help you find resources to enhance the global learning you do in your home through reading global books. I'm planning on sharing text sets comprised of books from across the world that are centered on a specific theme. On my blog, I will review all of the books in the text sets and discuss ways to share these books with your children so that they can promote meaningful conversations and learning. I hope you'll join me as in reading the world!
